About the Editor
This site began as a one-page repository for Joel's Stuff, and by a process of dubious evolution is now Joel's Improved Personal Website, purveyor of Free Software, Sensational Opinions and Editorials, Useful Advertisements and Tasteful Links of interest both Marginal and Maximal.
Background (and Foreground): Born in 1981 in Two Harbors, MN and lived half an hour north thereof, in a county with more deer than people. When I was six we moved down south to "the cities." I discovered computers at ten (Radio Shack CoCo III) and have been programming ever since; I learned BASIC, C/C++, HTML, Visual Basic, and a bit of Java from magazines and library books.
Recent History
Employment: Working full-time as a programmer and website manager/designer at Ellerbe Becket, an Architecture-Engineering-Construction (AEC) company.
Family: I live at home with my parents, seven brothers and sisters (of which I am the eldest), my grandparents, and a dog. We have a big house.
Living in a state with you-know-who for governor: I was not quite old enough to vote in 1998, but I would not have voted for Jesse Ventura ;-)
Music: I prefer classical music, and acoustic guitar. I play classical/folk guitar a little, but I prefer listening to playing. I can actually stand having opera music in the background, although it makes it hard to concentrate.
Errata: I like cold weather and Corn Flakes. I like cloudy days at least as well as sunny days.
